Experience Summary
I earned my Bachelors degree under Dr. Eladio Scharrón at the University of Central Florida and received my Masters degree from the Chicago College of Performing Arts. There I studied with Denis Azabagic, winner of 11 international guitar competitions and one of the premier guitar virtuosos in the world.
I have been teaching guitar for years as a private tutor and conservatory instructor. I teach classical technique and plays several other instruments.
I have given many solo and ensemble concerts and performed in numerous master classes for world-class virtuosos. I love to teach and his wide instrumental and stylistic experience gives me a well-rounded perspective which I strive to impart to students.
Teaching Style
Students must have a "classical" (aka "Spanish") guitar with nylon strings. Student models go for reasonable prices in stores or classifieds. Lessons include reading music, exercises, weekly easy pieces and longer work on larger pieces. I tailor lessons to the needs of each student and there are no impossible goals.
I am not strict, but students must treat lessons as more than just once-a-week practice sessions. Not everyone will be a professional, but anyone can progress if they apply steady practice. I enjoy teaching and want students to really understand the material.
After a few months, most students will read in open position, play easy pieces, and play from memory. I will always have my guitar handy for demonstration.
