I got my math Diploma when I was 16. I was tutoring math during high school to my classmates and my friends. I am in college right now but I still teach math to my sister who is in 9th grade, and my mom who is in college right now. I have experience of teaching math but I never really get paid for that and I was not like a real employee.

My major complaint with the current pedagogy of STEM fields is there focus on teaching students to be able to produce answers so a slew of canned and frankly uninteresting problem sets. There is so much interesting literature, philosophy, and history in the fields of science and physics that it makes very little sense to muddle with these less helpful and dull techniques and problems. Physics and math education has become so perforated with cliche that shows like Cosmos and the elegant universe can become hits by just regurgitating the same buzz-theories (Schrodinger's cat, Black holes, the multiverse etc.) in the same, cloddish language (space-time is 'warped' and twisted, quantum 'weirdness', etc). This lack of original language and analogy is not a semantical issue; it's suggestive of the philistine cleaving of the sciences from the arts and it's very disturbing -- these truly awesome ... read more

Learning is fun!

I am a tutor for the school district through the AVID program, as well as a private tutor. I specialize in tutoring in math but can tutor most all subjects from elementary through high school levels, and in some cases at the college level. I believe learning should be fun and math need not be scary.

My comments on tutoring Trigonometry : 20 years experience

Students in the classroom and those tutored privately all Comment that my teaching style makes learning and mastering each subject so much easier than they have found from other teachers. Students are taught learning skills that apply to their current subject and they can apply these skills to other subjects.

I especially enjoy one-on-one and small group tutoring as opposed to classroom teaching. I believe all students can excel in school, but some require individual attention that cannot be received in a traditional classroom setting. During my experience as a tutor, I learned that I am particularly good at figuring out an individual's learning style. This helps me to explain concepts in a way the student will understand. I am very patient and open-minded and I enjoy working with kids and people of all ages. I have also held various science-related jobs and therefore can bring in real-world examples to help explain a concept.
Throughout my education, I have excelled in every subject, particularly science and math. During college, I frequently studied in groups and assisted many classmates who were struggling. Some even began coming to me with questions instead of going to the pr ... read more

My greatest strengths in teaching have always been in small group and one-on-one settings. I stress language arts in every subject that I teach because language is the window through which we examine every other subject. I also stress thinking skills and will very rarely "spoon-feed" students information. I prefer to ask probing questions which will help students to discover knowledge and meaning for themselves. In mathematics, I prefer to stress the practical applications of skills as well as multiple processes for reaching conclusions. I believe that everyone thinks a little differently and procedures that work for one student may not work so well for others, so it is important to offer multiple ways of accomplishing the same goal.
I got my first degree in English Education because of my love of literature and my desire to share that love with students. At the time I gradua ... read more

As a USF graduate I worked diligently at achieving the best education I could. I completed my Natural Science degree at USF Tampa and then went on to complete my Teacher Certificate Program at St. Pete College. I have a strong science background and excellent teaching experience. For twenty-plus years I have worked with youth and children in education. Most recently I taught three years of middle school science under my Florida Teaching Certificate. I also coached volleyball and computer. I have extensive math and science college course work to supplement my experience.
The greatest contribution to children and youth is to help them get a good education. I love seeing students grasp new concepts and grow in their understanding of math and science. There are many different needs in the classroom and I believe I have a deep understanding of those needs and the ability to meet each o ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught for 20+ years in Germany (mainly Math, English and Reading) and for 4 years in Kansas City, MO. There I taught all core subjects: Math, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. Right now I have got several part time jobs: I work as a sub at a colligiate high school (all subjects), I will teach German at the Edison College in Fort Myers (Continuing Education) and I tutor for a private company doing SES tutoring - Reading and Math. I have prepared young people to do their GED, too. The subjects I did there were Math, Science and American History.
I love educating children and adults and strongly believe in lifelong learning. Since I have taught at several levels and even in different countries, I use different teaching techniques. My goal is to help the learner to get the best education possible.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in diversity and development. My experience of coming to this country as a Non-English speaker has taught me a lot about different learning styles that helped me learn the language quicker. I am very patient, easy-going, understanding, and determined. I believe that children are capable of learning if material is presented to them in a right style.
As an eastern European native, my educational background was always strong and learning was always my number one priority. I have earned my bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, which has enabled me to gain an understanding in many areas of math and science. Furthermore, I have always loved creative writing and in 2001 at University of South Florida, I earned the Excellence in Writing Award. I previously worked as a preschool teacher where I introduced scientific and mathematical concepts to the students. I have peer tut ... read more

In my experience, the best and most effective way of students to learn is by discovery method and hands-on learning by letting them develop their potentials of acquiring and applying knowledge. I am only a facilitator of the learning process.
I am a chemical engineer by profession and in the teaching field. I was a substitute teacher and tutor for 1 yr, then a high school teacher handling chemistry and general science for another year before i became a college instructor handling chemistry, physics and math for 15 yrs. Being a sales representative and at the same time the manager/cashier of a family business before my teaching career, I would say I have best people skills and can handle people of different levels and ages. My teaching style is grounded in empirically tested learning principles. Students flourish if teachers structure materials and instruction to reflect the constraints and faculties of the human mind. If a student fails to achieve, it is often because the instructor is not well versed in instructional design or an experienced teacher. In my instruction, I endeavor to find a way that each student can identify the meaning and value in that which they must learn. Once he or she is motivated, it is my responsibility to organize the material in a manner conducive to his or her learning style.
As a college-level instructor, I have extensive teaching experience. I have designed curricula, created teaching materials, taught classes with many adult students, and met one on one with pupils to address specific learning challenges. I have taught numerous classes, but mostly upper-level cla ... read more

I tutored with A+ Advanced Learning Center last year for a full year. I tutored 1st grade reading, 3rd grade reading comprehension and 6th grade reading comprehension. I went to Florida State University for three years, have an EMS-Paramedic degree from Florida Career Institute. I graduated from high school with a 4.2 GPA.
Working on an ambulance I have seen many different types of people at their worst. Because of this, I am very patient and compassionate and have been told that I have a very unique way of looking at problems. I am a very hands-on tutor and believe that learning should be fun, not work.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style varied depending on the students abilities in my classes. When whole group or direct instruction was needed, I utilized it; if hands-on instruction was needed, I utilized that strategy. I am a firm believer that using a multi-sensory approach is the way to go in any instrucitonal program. Since all children learn differently, then the use of different modalities to deliver instruction will benefit more children. Most of all, patience is required. Because no matter what strategy and mode of instruction used, patience and guidance is needed for the child to achieve to his potential
I worked for as a teacher in a New York city high school for 10 years and as Assistant Principal of Mathematics for 15 years. I've now retired and moved to North Port.
