My major complaint with the current pedagogy of STEM fields is there focus on teaching students to be able to produce answers so a slew of canned and frankly uninteresting problem sets. There is so much interesting literature, philosophy, and history in the fields of science and physics that it makes very little sense to muddle with these less helpful and dull techniques and problems. Physics and math education has become so perforated with cliche that shows like Cosmos and the elegant universe can become hits by just regurgitating the same buzz-theories (Schrodinger's cat, Black holes, the multiverse etc.) in the same, cloddish language (space-time is 'warped' and twisted, quantum 'weirdness', etc). This lack of original language and analogy is not a semantical issue; it's suggestive of the philistine cleaving of the sciences from the arts and it's very disturbing -- these truly awesome

Elena S. - Rotonda West, FL 33947 (24.9 mi) - Trigonometry Tutor - $40.00/hr.
I am a professional teacher. I have 15 years of experience teaching. I have taught Math and Computer Science in college. Also I have taught in both public and private school systems. I have experience private tutoring for students in school, college and also university.
I do understand that all students learn at different degrees but they all can learn better. So I am always teaching my students with considering their individual characteristics. I enjoy teaching because I very often hear from my students that they really start to understand Math or Computer Science better only when I take them to learn.
Working one-on-one with a student is a great opportunity to really focus on the individual characteristics and academic needs of the student and helping them to be more successful in learning.

Don A. - Rotonda West, FL 33947 (24.9 mi) - Trigonometry Tutor - $47.50/hr.
My experience, (both academic and work)has been widely varied, ranging from research and engineering to financial management in a corporate environment, followed by golf course design and landscape management. In addition I used my experience in construction and woodworking to build and market patio furniture. Unfortunately the housing depression of the mid 2000's caused the business to be non profitable and was closed. Since 2005 I have been semi retired and used my construction experience to work at a lumber and hardware store. One on one or group. Lessons taught, homework assigned, then follow up of homework assignment.

John B. - Sarasota, FL 34243 (32.1 mi) - Trigonometry Tutor - $25.00/hr.
Covering sine, cosine and tangent functions especially in problem-solving. Laws of sines and cosines. Use of radians and solving problems with TI-83 calculator. Cover periodic functions with varying amplitudes, and graphing all functions. Eight years of tutoring math subjects for middle school and high school students. I have a keen interest in math and have always enjoyed helping students grasp the essence of a problem and its mathematical solution. I worked for many years in the corporate world, designing and programming mid-range and large scale computers. I try to present each subject area as a sample problem and show EXACTLY how a solution is reached. Then I invite the student's participation with a view toward understanding the student's thinking. While accuracy in math is vital, understanding the steps involved is crucial.

Wamweni S. - Lehigh Acres, FL 33936 (36.1 mi) - Trigonometry Tutor - $20.00/hr.
I like to interact with the student I am tutoring. I want to be near that student so they can I can clearly explain what they need to learn, and make sure they can hear and understand it. After I explain everything about the subject area, I provide practice excercises for the student so that I am sure they understand it all. When I tutor, my goal is for that student to excel in that area they need help in. I am well organized person and always prepared. I am a first year student at Stetson University. I skipped fifth grade, which is the reason I graduated early. I completed all four years of high school with A's, and only about 2-3 B's. My professional subject area is Mathematics. I took Advanced Placement Calculus 1 in my senior year, receiving a "Most Outstanding" award. I also have experience in areas such as Reading, Writing, English, and also projects. My freshman and sophomore year

Philip T. - Fort Myers, FL 33907 (36.4 mi) - Trigonometry Tutor - $32.50/hr.
I helped many students who had previously given up hope to pass the CLAST exam and I taught the math portion of an SAT prep course through FGCU's CAA.
I tutored LD students through Adaptive Services at FGCU
I taught labs at FGCU for intermediate and college algebra, statistics and business calculus.
I taught AP Calculus and AP Statistics at a private school.
I taught Pre-calc and Algebra II through Lee County School District. Practice-Theory-Practice. I try to stay very focused on doing examples and practice problems. Some theory is necessary for a deep understanding, but it has to come at the right time. The student first needs some practice or at least an attempt to appreciate the process involved in solving a problem. Then I try and bring to light any issues and cover some theory. Then we do more practice.

Barbara S - Port Charlotte, FL 33948 (14.6 mi) - Trigonometry Tutor - $40.00/hr.
I have taught for 20+ years in Germany (mainly Math, English and Reading) and for 4 years in Kansas City, MO. There I taught all core subjects: Math, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies.
Right now I have got several part time jobs: I work as a sub at a colligiate high school (all subjects), I will teach German at the Edison College in Fort Myers (Continuing Education) and I tutor for a private company doing SES tutoring - Reading and Math. I have prepared young people to do their GED, too. The subjects I did there were Math, Science and American History. I love educating children and adults and strongly believe in lifelong learning.
Since I have taught at several levels and even in different countries, I use different teaching techniques.
My goal is to help the learner to get the best education possible.
