A Little Bit About Me...

Have tutored in multiple subjects (math, French, physics, MCAT, etc) since college. Served as adjunct faculty to Indiana School of Medicine and St Vincent Fam Med residency from 1993-2005. Have taught multiple paramedical subjects at National College in Indianapolis from 11/10- current. Got two english major daughters through HS math (through trig) and physics. (Hardest of all)
Socratic- I encourage questions, challenges, am willing and happy to look things up with students, know I do not know everything and enjoy revising my own knowledge as I go. Current knowledge changes continuously, and a day in which I learn something myself is a good one.

I taught one year at Zionsville Community High School, where I taught Algebra I, Prealgebra, and Basic Math. I currently teach at Tri-Central High School, where I have been for nine years. I teach AP Calculus AB, Precalculus, and Geometry. I have also taught Algebra I at Tri-Central. I have had experience tutoring, both in high school and college. I have tutored students in Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Precalculus, and AP Calculus AB.
I have a very strong passion towards teaching. While many teachers tend to go towards adminstration afters 10 years of teaching, I have no desire to go that route. I have an MS in mathematics from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, a math-science-engineering college located in Terre Haute, IN. I have successfully tutored high school and college students from basic math through statistics. My high school students have improved their math qualifying exam scores substantially. Additionally, I have been an adjunct professor at Franklin University of Ohio, Ivy Tech, Harrison College and National College.

I have tutored students for many of the college science classes. I have also been a tutor for an elementary school in Bloomington. I am also an experienced test prep tutor, having helped students prepare for everything from class tests to the GED, SAT, and ACT.
I have learned that the best way to teach is to let the student know how much you enjoy the subject and then work to make them feel the same way. I also know that you cannot predict what methods will be best for all people. I prepare extensivesly with sample tests, worksheets, as well as fun learning activities. A Little Bit About Me...

I approach teaching as a challenge; as I know not every student learns the same way. I first start by finding a common ground; a level of knowledge if you will. Essentially I find what they know and where do they need help. From there I like to find out something the student has an interest in; thus allowing me to relate subjects to something they find interesting. I also like to constantly reinforce what the student has learned with questions and examples. Finally I relate everything that the student has learned to the real world; which I find gives them a better understanding of what they've learned, and for the importance of it.
