I have been involved with youth since completing Bible College in 1978. I have two grown children who both completed college (my daughter cum laud in chem; University of Kentucky). I also have two step children; ages 12 and 10. I have been a qualified substitute teacher for the last 4 years, so have a working knowledge of state standards for all subjects; especially math. I have always been a curious person and even as an adult I enjoy learning. As a result, I have a passion for sharing my knowledge and experience with others. As a teacher, I am encouraging, supportive, and patient. I think it is very important to tailor teaching methods to the individual student because people learn in different ways. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all education, and I like to use my creativity in lessons to help keep learning interesting. I earned my BA in German with a minor in music. My interest in the German language began as a child when my mother took a military assignment to Germany. In addition to the three years I lived there with my family, I completed a study abroad session during college and returned two years later as a Fulbright grantee to teach English in a German school. In total I spent six years in Germany and am quite fluent in the language.

My career as a professional violinist has offered me many unique opportunities and experiences over the years. I find that teaching is one of the experiences I enjoy the most. I have been teaching violin lessons to children and adults for over 19 years, and continue to do so today. I began my career in Paris, France, where I lived for five years, and have maintained my fluent French language skills. I have a very strong background in creative writing in the English language as well; before beginning my career as a violinist, I won some minor writing awards and had the opportunity to work as an editor and proof-reader.
