More About This Tutor...

As the daughter of educators, I have been exposed to the education system all my life. As a result of this exposure, I became very interested in tutoring and teaching. I taught for two years as a substitute teacher before attending law school. I previously worked as a substitute teacher with Morrow Elementary in North Lauderdale, Florida where I taught test-taking strategies for the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test. Most recently, I have volunteered with Youth Encouragement services as a tutor.
Based on previous experience I have discovered that the same teaching style does not work for every child. I find that explaining each topic and asking the child question gives a clear indication of their understanding. Based on responses to the questions adjustments may be made to address each child's need.

A Little Bit About Me...

I majored in English and Spanish at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. For the past two years, I have been a graduate student in English at the University of Cincinnati. The most important aspect of my program of study has been my teaching assistantship, which has allowed me to teach one section of English Composition each quarter. My students and I have benefited from the classes I have taken on pedagogy at UC, including a Teaching Practicum, and classes on Teaching College Writing, and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Because of my four years of experience as a Writing Center Consultant, I am very comfortable in individual meetings with students that focus on improving specific writing skills. In the Writing Centers where I have tutored and in the Danville Adult Education and Literacy Center, I worked with students learning English as a second language.
