I majored in English and Spanish at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. For the past two years, I have been a graduate student in English at the University of Cincinnati. The most important aspect of my program of study has been my teaching assistantship, which has allowed me to teach one section of English Composition each quarter. My students and I have benefited from the classes I have taken on pedagogy at UC, including a Teaching Practicum, and classes on Teaching College Writing, and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Based on previous experience I have discovered that the same teaching style does not work for every child. I find that explaining each topic and asking the child question gives a clear indication of their understanding. Based on responses to the questions adjustments may be made to address each child's need.
As the daughter of educators, I have been exposed to the education system all my life. As a result of this exposure, I became very interested in tutoring and teaching. I taught for two years as a substitute teacher before attending law school. I'm patient and understanding the complexities of accounting and the ensuing panic that it sometimes causes. In my experience the fundamental reason people need tutoring boils down to a failure to truly understand the concept of the debit and credit. I always begin by reviewing these concepts and ensuring that the student/intern fully understands the logic behind the debit and credit.
