It is time to understand what is going on in math class.

I have had teaching responsibilities since I began graduate school. At SUNY at Buffalo, I was an assistant for courses in calculus of a single variable, multivariable calculus, and linear algebra; at SUNY at Brockport, I was the instructor of a course in basic algebra. Currently, I am a graduate student and adjunct instructor at Binghamton University. I have taught calculus of a single variable - both differential calculus and integral calculus, linear algebra, and a course for liberal arts majors. I feel as though every student will have their own niche. They will have a special subject that they enjoy the most and one that they despise. I think that figuring out how the child studies for the subject they enjoy will lead to an understanding of how to motivate that student to learn the subjects that are more difficult for them. I like children to learn through exploring. This is not to say that I do not teach, but I plan lessons in a way that allows students to learn at their own pace. I feel like if I can put together a lesson that gives children a motivation to learn, they will learn on a deeper level than if I am merely telling them information. With my middle school math students whom I tutored, this meant that we learned about fractions through art. It was not enough to explain to them how fractions worked, I realized that they needed to experience fractions.
