While studying at SUNY ESF I held a position as a teaching assistant for Western Civilization. This involved grading exams and papers, preparing and giving lectures, and holding office hours to assist students with any questions or concerns they may have had. I also spent time volunteering to teach and after school science club through ESF Outreach for elementary / middle school aged children.
I feel as though every student will have their own niche. They will have a special subject that they enjoy the most and one that they despise. I think that figuring out how the child studies for the subject they enjoy will lead to an understanding of how to motivate that student to learn the subjects that are more difficult for them. A Little Bit About Me...

In my final semester as a TA at Maine, I was assigned instructing Chemistry lab to a class that was regarded by some as "difficult" and "slow". The students were largely Forestry majors for whom Chemistry was a required course that had little to do with their major and in which there was little interest. I found that treating them with respect and dignity resulted in more receptiveness on their part. Rather than talking "at" them, I talked "to" them and explained the experiments using analogy with everyday experiences. To my supervisor's astonishment, I even had some students coming to me for extra help, with the result that they all passed the course with a grade of C or better.
