A Little Bit About Me...

While studying at SUNY ESF I held a position as a teaching assistant for Western Civilization. This involved grading exams and papers, preparing and giving lectures, and holding office hours to assist students with any questions or concerns they may have had. I also spent time volunteering to teach and after school science club through ESF Outreach for elementary / middle school aged children.
I feel as though every student will have their own niche. They will have a special subject that they enjoy the most and one that they despise. I think that figuring out how the child studies for the subject they enjoy will lead to an understanding of how to motivate that student to learn the subjects that are more difficult for them. Also, if the student's teacher stays positive and pushes him or her towards success by means of positive reinforcement they will succeed.

During my undergraduate career I discovered my passion for teaching. I also discovered that being an educator in the sciences is particularly tricky because it deals with some of the most abstract information with seemingly little real world application. My high school Chemistry instructor had a profound impact on me. Although the subject was a difficult one, his passion for it was so infectious that, by the end of my junior year, I WANTED to be a chemist. I went on to attain Chemistry degrees from Long Island University (BS) and the University of Maine (MS with thesis).
