I have taught internship classes and tutored statistics at the University level. I have tutored mathematics from elementary to calculus at a junior college. I have been a GRE instructor for the Stanley Kaplan company I founded, owned and operated the Idaho School of Professional Hypnosis for 10 years, teaching hypnosis and hypnotherapy at a professional level. None of my family had gone to college, so it was predicted I would not either. I had a hunger to learn, so I systematically worked full-time and studied part-time, earning eight major degrees in cities where they alowed residency rquirements to be met in such a way. I was young and energetic, so it was a lot of work, but a joy. It took about 15 years to finally earn my doctorate. Over the past year I have tutored through The College of Idaho's Chemistry Club. Chemistry, especially the math portions, never came easily to me. I had to work hard and spend hours asking professors questions, but now I am much better at chemistry because of it. As a tutor I wanted to help fellow students who were struggling as I had.
Just telling a child how to do a problem is not effective. I believe a teacher needs to explain the logic and reasoning behind solving certain problems certain ways.
