I am a certified tutor with experience in Political Science/American Government. My experience was gained by working with college students (student-athletes and those with documented disabilities). I am also able to tutor History (both World and American History) and the Verbal/Written portion of the GRE test. I teach by using analogy and also by showing where to find the answers. I try very hard not to simply give the answers to the tutee. My thought is that simply giving the answers does not build a lasting base of knowledge. Plus I can show the tutee that even though I may not have all the answers I can use my resources to find the answer.

My teaching style involves mostly hands on work which helps the student understand what they are doing better. While I have experience in many subjects the one I have the most experience in and feel most comfortable teaching is Chemistry. I have taken and tutored high school students at my school on chem 1. Along with all of this I have also taken and passed chem 3 (physical chemistry) which is not offered anywhere in the nation at the high school level anymore.

I just finished my first year at CWI and am currently taking English 102 - took predominately English, editing, computer, marketing, and math classes. I like to ask questions of my students so they're the ones who figure out the topic as opposed to me telling them. Then I like to expand on that by going into the details of the subject as that's the only way to truly understand something. In my experience, tutoring this way helps the students become familiar with the topic as well as understanding why the topic is important. I am a graduate of the University of Idaho where I received both my BS and MS in Chemistry. I taught general and physical chemistry laboratory courses while earning my MS as well. Finally, I tutored students in all branches of chemistry including high school level and organic. Since my MS was in physical chemistry, I learned quite a bit about mathematics and have even tutored my own chemistry students in algebra. Chemistry does require algebra, after all.
