A Little Bit About Me...

I have a somewhat relaxed teaching style that does not compromise the distinction or respect between student and teacher. This teaching style results in a classroom atmosphere where students feel comfortable responding to my questions and asking for further clarification about complex topics. Many students have told me that my teaching style is refreshing and they feel comfortable in class.
With my numerous experiences in education, I think I could be a great asset in helping students become more knowledgeable. I have worked as a Tutor, Assistant Teacher, and did a short placement as an Interim Teacher. I can easily adjust to changing environments that will best suit the student’s potential. I was a Tutor in an after school program, and was an Assistant Teacher in a Special Education classroom. I finished an Interim Teaching placement in a middle school A.P. English classroom.

I am blessed to have attended a college that prepared me for real world situations and classroom circumstances. I have achieved two bachelor's degrees, a BS in bible and a BS in elementary education. I have also achieved a master's in holistic education. These degree programs provided me with a grasp of all subject areas in the elementary portion of schooling. I have also had the pleasure of tutoring many athletes at both the college and middle school level. I have tutored in subjects ranging from math and science to history and literature.
I am a discussion based teacher. I prefer to engage the students higher level thinking with a questioning approach. I like to accommodate to a child's personality and likes to help them to learn through distinct processes. When given the opportunity in the correct manner, children can learn most of what is put in front of them. By using example catered specifically to certain children, they are able to connect to the tutor as well as the subject. As a tutor, I am kind, laid-back and patient. I have worked with different levels of mental health and emotional maturity for several years. I have spent much of my spare time working within the community at youth centers, soup kitchens and veteran administration homes. I feel that working with many different types and levels of human functioning has enabled me to be more able to adjust my teaching and assisting styles to better serve my community.

I have been a teacher for 13 years. I started out in Huntsville, Alabama as a substitute teacher for grades K-12. I was a title I teacher for 2 years with 7th and 8th grade and 2nd grade. I was a classroom teacher for 4 years at Rolling Hills Elementary School. I was a 5th grade teacher for 2 years and a 1st grade teacher for 2 years. I then moved to Bay County, Florida. I taught 4 years in Bay County. I taught 5th grade for 2 years, 1st and 2nd grade. My last teaching position was at Breakfast Point Academy.
