I do not have a specific teaching style. Everyone is different, so one particular type of teaching style may not be as effective as another. Because science is a "hands-on" subject, I feel it is extremely important to use demonstrations, examples that are relevant to every-day life, experiments and anything else that will help students understand the world around them. As a supplemental Instructor/tutor at UMSL Department of Biology, I facilitate the learning process by explaining concepts and encouraging open communication with students. In addition, I conduct weekly review sessions to integrate how-to-learn with what-to-learn. I grade exams and laboratory reports. Since students learn in many ways—by seeing and hearing; reflecting and acting; reasoning logically and intuitively; memorizing and visualizing,I provide various guidelines for how I want tasks completed in this course based upon student pool. I truly enjoy helping children reach their full potential. I believe that children who don't understand a subject just haven't had it explained to them in their way of learning and I believe I can find their way. I use patience, understanding, and humor to ease their minds but still am able to convey a sense of high expectation of them. Then, I explain concepts to them in a variety of ways until they can comprehend the subject manner. This includes using diagrams, creating a real-life situations where the concept is applied, drawing analogies that to which they can relate, or developing a game out of the lesson.
