I earned my Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, in 1989. Since graduation I have worked as both a full-time teacher and a substitute teacher. I have taught full-time at five different traditional schools and Florida Virtual School. In these positions, I have taught Algebra II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Trigonometry, Analytic Geometry, Algebra I, 7th Grade Math, 8th Grade Math, Computer Applications, and various general math courses. My teaching style really depends on the person I am working with. People learn different ways. It is important to identify what works best for the person. For example, some people may learn through discussion, while others may need to see pictures or presentations of the subject matter. I like to identify how the person learns first through questions, or by testing them with a simple task first to identify the method which seems to work best for them. "It isn't rocket science," is often the reply when asked why some kids have such a difficult time learning to read.
