A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a volunteer for various literacy programs for the past several years, focusing primarily on phonics rather than sight reading. I have worked in two group homes for dually diagnosed adults, meaning both physically and mentally challenged. I went to school online at Ashford University, for 2 years in an accelerated Bachelor's Degree program with a focus on education. With an inborn gift of language art skills and being a tutor for about the past 20 years, I have learned how to relate easily to any age group or functioning level.
I am a creative teacher, meaning that I assess the individual and do not have an agenda that I adhere to. I believe in a multi facet teaching style. Children learn by many different ways. Some children learn by audio, visual, or kinetic. So, I would teach in a style that suited by the student's needs. I love teaching and working with children. I understand differen conditions such as Autism and Attention Deficit Disorder. I love working with children that have passion for art and are as determined as myself to do the best they can even if they are not the most talented or it does not come as naturally. I have struggled with dyslexia all my life and understand when a child/student needs a little extra help in a area or just wants to learn more, in other words I can sympathize, because I have been there. I love working with children of all ages. I can say I am patient enough to deal with elementary students being that I've done so before. I love to have fun with learning and can bring the fun of learning to the classroom. I want the students to want to learn and that is what I am going to bring to the table.
Children's church is where a year of my experience comes from. I would guide a group of children during the service and would spend individual time with those who wanted to brush up on their reading and writing.
