Dyslexia is one of my top subjects! As an Intervention Specialist of 18 years, my specialization is the intervention of reading disabilities and dyslexia with students in grades K-12. I have completed Basic and Advanced courses through the Orton Gillingham Academy and am certified as a classroom teacher with over 300 hours of students instructional time using the Orton Gillingham method of instruction.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style changes to fit the requirements of the subject and the needs of my students. I find that presenting and explaining works best for language arts and history, concept teaching works best for science, and direct instruction works best for mathematics. I also take into account the learning preferences of my students: left or right brained, visual, spatial, or kinesthetic because each prefers different treatment. A child needs to have fun throughout the learning process. He learns best when he is excited and interested. He needs to be able to choose his own books to read. This usually entails a trip to the library. And from there, we start with shared readings, repeated readings, running records, echo readings and choral readings, just to name a few.
