A Little Bit About Me...

I have a Masters in Education and seeking to complete a doctorate in educational leadership. Through ten years of teaching, I still believe all children can and want to learn. I value the assessment of the student's strengths and weaknesses in order to determine the areas to concentrate in for tutoring. I have taught as an elementary and middle school math teacher. I have worked with many age groups, both individually and in small groups. I have over 10 years of experience as an educator and enjoy working with students of all ages. What I have discovered about myself is that I learn differently from other people. I am the kind of person who prefers to set aside that assembly instruction manual and put together that Christmas toy by laying out the pieces in an orderly fashion. There is so much pleasure in problem solving. I learn by asking myself questions. I have little patience for mundane drills and memorization if they can be avoided. Each child is different. It is meaningless to say that a child is intelligent. There are many kinds of intelligences. Some children are more intelligent in memorization. Others are intelligent in solving problems. It is best to discover the child's strengths and weaknesses and adapt a program to each and every child.
