I have experience in all of the fields that are listed. Most of the skills I have acquired were either through learning them during my time at school or through doing personal research because they interested me. I have done some tutoring in the computer/i.t field as a side job. Chess has been one of my favorite things to learn. My experience with chess has been a regional tournament where I made it to the last-round of the semi-finals.

I love working with children and young adults. My challenge as a tutor is to take something that is difficult and make it fun and understandable. Too often students look at teachers or adults as enemies, and I try to take a very laid-back, conversational approach when tutoring. Obviously if the child is being tutored in a particular subject, there is an obstacle or a problem in that area so it is important to build the child's confidence and show them that they can succeed. What I have discovered about myself is that I learn differently from other people. I am the kind of person who prefers to set aside that assembly instruction manual and put together that Christmas toy by laying out the pieces in an orderly fashion. There is so much pleasure in problem solving. I learn by asking myself questions. I have little patience for mundane drills and memorization if they can be avoided. Each child is different.
