Since memorizing usually helps for short term memory, I create ways to understand and remember ideas that are easy and fun to learn. By using methods used by World Memory Championship competetors and by star Kaplan instructors, I make remembering easy and painless. With this method, it is harder to forget what you learn!

A Little Bit About Me...

I have substitute taught for over 16 years and this past year I worked with the SES program tutoring. My areas of focus are sciences and maths but I have had to tutor reading. This year I tutored middle school students but I have tutored elementary as well. I tend to focus on the high level maths and sciences often taking long term positions in high school.
I started substitute teaching when I was in undergraduate school just as a source of income and because I like teaching. My mother is a retired teacher who taught for over 30 years. I work as an engineer but I always find time to tutor. I have tutored with an SES program and have found that this worked really well. Focusing on how the children learn as a method to approach how they should be tutored is very effective and the children learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an Early Childhood teacher, I have chosen what I believe to be a very important position in society. I have both a BA and a MED in Early Childhood Education. I have taught school for 27 years. During these years I have taught Pre-K, Kindergarten,1st grade and specialized reading in grades 2-5. I have taught students in large classes, small groups and as individuals. I have knowledge in many areas of learning for young children, but am most proficeint in Math and Language Arts.
I enjoy teaching children and get great pleasure from helping them to learn new concepts. It is very exciting to see the glow in the eyes of a child when he has realized that he understands what we are studying. I believe each child is an individual and learns in his own way. There is no set way to teach a child. Through many years of working with children, I have been able to adjust my teaching style to ... read more

My goal is to teach high school English. I have several years experience working with youth in teaching roles, including tutoring both math and english. For 11 months in Ecuador I taught English, Health, Phys. Ed., and career skills to elementary school working children and literacy to their parents. Other experiences include 6 weeks teaching project management and career skills to high school girls in DC, 6 months teaching at a special ed. school, and 5 summers as a head counselor for kids with a variety of disabilities. I also took 24 credit hours of painting, drawing, sculpture, and art history classes in college.
I believe that every child has a natural desire and ability to learn. When I teach I focus on the students' interests and give them as much free choice as possible in order to encourage their natural sense of wonder and to maintain a warm environment. That said ... read more

I enjoy teaching almost as much as I enjoy learning. I believe that basic education skills are the foundation for success. Progressing through school in Independent Study Classes, I am fully aware that conventional methods of teaching and studying do not work for every child. I invite and accept the challenge of discovering new ways to share the knowledge that I have gathered so far in my educational career. I think it’s important to maintain patience and provide support to anyone who may need a little extra help learning a skill.
I began tutoring in the third grade after I was accepted into Independent Study Classes. I was selected to tutor my fellow classmates in spelling and reading comprehension. My volunteer tutoring continued throughout my grade school years and into my higher education career. Once in college, I was hired as a mental health worker and tutor to austitic child ... read more

I have expertise in teaching reading and math from infancy to grade 8. I have successfully tutored college math and English. I have taught 6th, 1st, 4th and 2nd grade in SC and GA public schools. I have taught in a private school specializing in students with learning disabilities, dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, and autism. In 1999, I developed and operated my own private tutoring service in Charleston, SC. My students consistently meet or exceed standardized test (CRCT) expectations. I'm quite proud of the performances of my students every year! Prior to teaching, I was a nanny so I have never had a job that didn't involve children.
If students don't learn the way we teach, we must learn to teach the way they learn. I believe in Orton-Gillingham's philosophy of teaching everything using as many senses simultaneously as possible. Thus, I introduce and teach using manipulatives so lessons are ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love being around and teaching kids. I am constantly around kids now. I am a single parent of a 10 year old dughter, and i am very into her school. First off i don't believe that a kid is dumb or doesn't know how to do anything. Children only know what we teach them. So if a child doesnt know how to do something it is a reflection on the teaching that he/she has had. I have never had a kids come to me and leave without learing more than they knew before they got to me. I believe in practice makes perfect, especially in math. To be great at math calls for repitition. The more you do the better you will get at it. I believe in real life examples, not in adult situations but something the child can relate to to help them better understand. I honestly feel that I am the best at helping students to understand math.

As an educator,I enjoy embrassing teachable moments.I began my teaching career with Severely and Profoundly Intellectually Disabled children, who ranged in grade level from K-5. I was then granted the opportunity to teach the same class, but on a middle aged grade level. I have also, and am currently, teaching general education 8th grade students. While I couldn't totally dismiss myself from the special education spectrum; I take part in inclusion teaching. I also perform small group instruction for students working below grade level in mathematics, reading, and language arts ,in a joint effort with the math and ela teachers, to prepare the students for the crct.
My style of teaching is always dependent upon my students and where they are congnitively. Teaching is always keeping the best academic interest of your students in mind. Therefore, I almost, always try to provide students ... read more

I have earned a BS in Physical Education. My major was Athletic Training, which has prepared me to gain extensive knowledge in Biology and Anatomy & Phys. I also have prior tutoring experience helping with students at my church and family members who were younger than me. I have helped tutor students with all major subjects.
I am a patient, understanding, and considerate person. I love the sight of a child learning something after a person takes the time to show the steps. At the moment, I am unemployed throughout the week so i can meet with a child/children whenever they need me. I also can help a child through their personal problems because it is not always that a child does not understand the information; sometimes they have other things affecting their lives. I want to be able to make a difference in a child life forever.

Every teacher must recognize that individuals learn at their own pace. I try to begin at a pace that the student feels comfortable with while gradually challenging them to improve their performance. My technical background makes me a very visual person. I like to incorporate that in my instruction, using visual aides and examples. Placing student of varying levels together will aide the learning process. My three-step guide is learn—teach—perform. If a student has learned the material well enough to teach another, they are well on their way to master the subject.
I have worked in the private sector for over 28-years. During that time, I have earned Associates Degrees in Business Administration and Mechanical Engineering Technology. I have also earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. The majority of my career has been spent working with un-skilled laborers, which has a ... read more
