Graduated Art Institute of Pittsburgh in 1983 with a Major in Visual Communications. Have worked in Advertising Agencies, Printing Companies, Fortune 500 Companies. Have owned my own graphic design business for 15 years. I also teach Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign (and classes on how they all work together in the graphic design workflow) for 3 years at Hillsborough Community College.
After I find out what the student desires to do with the knowledge, I show the student not only how to do something, but why. Also show alternate ways to do the same task to allow them to do the one that they are comfortable with. After showing, I have the student do the actual work, helping them through it. Real world examples are shown, concepts introduced, real skills practiced. We move on when student is ready to move on.

I've worked in and on computers for over 30yrs and as a Systems Administrator I've worked extensively on Email, security, and full networking. I was also responsible for staff training of newly introduced policies and procedures. I was a consultant in a dual database implementation that required me to translate technical information between the database programmer and the publishing owner. This was an ongoing task throughout the web and with internal users.

I really do not have a teaching style yet. A one on one setting is what I am used to. I am open to different teaching techniques depending on the help the child requires. The internet is available and has many different techniques to learning different subjects I can research as I see fit.
I have just received my BA in E-Business management with a minor in Criminal Justice. My teaching style is "one-on-one" for the most part. My first instinct with tutoring is empathetic: if I were struggling in this particular subject, what would be the best way for me to understand it? If this method proves ineffective, I would choose a different technique. I am a visual learner so I often teach visually.
