I'll be honest. My "students" from the past have told me that during the time when I was actually sitting down and tutoring/working with them, they didn't even notice that they were actually doing the work. What I do when I try to make the "students" learn is to make them see what the books are trying to say to them through what we see through our eyes, in our world, every day. For example, if the book says: 7 - x = 4, I would be telling the child/adult, "Imagine if you had 7 dollars in your hand." I would then ask them, "How many do I need to take away (subtract) for you to have 4 dollars?" When working with the lower kids, I even use the actual objects and lay them on tables in front of me and show to them so they don't have to use their imagination to figure it out. Or if the page has picture on it, just cross them out if subtracting, or draw more if adding. I was an Instructi

Aly R. - Bakersfield, CA 93313 (33.6 mi) - Sign Language Tutor - $20.00/hr.
I am a Sign Language interpreting student and fluent in ASL. I have been signing since 2009 and plan to graduate in 2013. My strengths are storytelling, ASL structure and facial expressions. Of course there will always be new information to learn since sign language is always evolving. I have been learning sign for 4 years now and have been one of the top students in my classes. I have also been requested as a teacher's assitant multiple times as well as an ASL tutor for all levels. I am recommended by members of the Deaf community as well as my instructors to continue and tutoring, so that I may pass on my understanding of Deaf culture, American Sign Language and the Deaf community. In the Deaf community this is significant because the Deaf community chooses and has an important say in who teaches sign language as well as who tutors. Being recommended to assist teachers and tutor ASL st

I love teaching and working with all children. I believe every student needs to learn something through their individual academic advantages or skills. Each student learns things different ways, and it is my job as a teacher to use all of the different avenues in my instruction so that I can target each student's indiviual learning abilities. I am a firm believer in teaching through discovery and in providing a constructivist approach to learning. I believe all children can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings and learning experiences. A few good educators can make a world of difference in a child's education. I strive to make a difference in all of my students' lives I received a BA in both English and Elem Education at Assumption College in Worcester MA.
