I enjoy working with students. It seems that, in most cases, tutoring is essentially a confidence-builiding exercise. Yes, it's anout instructional leadership, but it's more about showing a student they can really achieve what they're setting out to do. I really enjoy showing students that they know the solution; it's just about learning how to properly express it. My teaching style is very relaxed, though I also encourage students to stay focused and on-task. I believe in creating a positive atmosphere where students feel comfortable asking questions and engaging in discussions. When I teach or tutor in writing, I make it my goal to give students a solid structure for composing assignments that they can use to write any paper. When I teach reading, I make it my goal to find something in the text to engage the students, since if they are not interested, they will not read or comprehend. I love the give and take of working with high school students. I relish hearing fresh, young opinions and seeing how they decide what they believe in and why. My style entails showing a student the relevance of what he or she is doing. It is important for a child to know WHY what they are supposed to be learning is so important; they need to know how it will help them years from now after the classes are over. I believe learning is about confidence. I have seen numerous students doing poorly in courses because they were convinced that they were not capable of learning the subject matter. Small successes help to build confidence in order to move on to the subsequent challenges. I believe in starting with the basics, and making sure that the students truly grasps the subject matter before moving to more difficult concepts. I have always loved children. Children are precious and all have very unique learning techniques. When I was a senior at Maryville High School, I taught Spanish to first graders. My partner and I were in charge of making lesson plans and fulfilling these plans for each class. I really enjoyed seeing the children get excited about learning.
I enjoy seeing children learn new things. I know that every child learns differently. It is important to get to know the children that you are teaching and figure out what teaching technique fits there needs. I feel like I do an excellent job of portraying what I am trying to teach.

In high school, I was a member of the Governors Peer Study Program where I tutored lower classmen in the areas of mathematics and science. I graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2002 where I earned a Bachelors degree in Business. I have a strong background from work experience in statistics and logistical management.
I love working with college bound high school students. I believe that proper preparation at the high school level will determine how easy or hard the transition to college will be. The difference between earning a scholarship or not may determine whether a child goes to college or enters the work force performing entry level work.
