I have played chess for over fifty years. I am currently a member of the ICC (An internet chess club) and I have played thousands of chess games over last fifteen years with people from all over the world. I am not a chess master but I am a good player with an ICC rating of 1285. I first question the students in what they already know to see the areas that need less instruction. Then I ask them problems from their school texts and see how they do. This will give me some knowledge of where the student is failing and the area that needs more support. I then ask them at the session's end if they learned something and how that makes them feel.
