Believe in yourself, and you are half-way there!

I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. I love being able to help students feel comfortable with the material they are studying. I have tutored numerous times throughout college, and would like to get back into tutoring students because I find it to be rewarding. As a student who went from living in Germany and being taught that there are many ways of getting the right answer, to moving to America where everything is taught in one way, I have learned to incorporate my tutoring skills to the need of each individual student. I try to figure out what works best for every individual and help them focus on their strength and improve their weaknesses.
My teaching style depends on the student. I am comfortable with trying different study methods in order to figure out why my student is having trouble with a particular subject.

A Little Bit About Me...

Most math education is pure calculation. This is important, but becomes tedious. Many children can’t learn like a computer and thus lose interest or struggle. My approach is different. I focus on logic and fundamentals because all of mathematics is logically built on a very simple foundation that anyone can understand. This foundation is necessary but often neglected. I believe I can build this foundation in anyone. Mathematics also has a lot of interesting history, and I know a lot of stories. A well placed story of humanity is often emotionally helpful. Overall I foster a relaxed environment, but never too relaxed. This is mathematics after all, the most rigorous academic discipline. But rigor will be a result instead of a prerequisite.
I went to school at the age of 23 and graduated at the age of 29 in May 2010. Throughout that time, I worked as a machinist and labored as a fath ... read more

More About This Tutor...

As a recent college graduate, it is my strong belief that education can open doors to opportunities. Through my undergraduate and graduate career, I have tutored and mentored my peers through science college courses, including biology, genetics, and chemistry. During the summer months, I instructed courses (Immunology and Anatomy/Physiology) for high school students as part of a summer boarding program. Although my formal training has been in the sciences, I am looking for the opportunity to tutor in math, which was my strong point in high school and college through AP and Honors courses.
I truly believe a proper education can open doors, but the teacher-student relationship is the key to that success. Every student has the potential to achieve greatness, and as a tutor, I strive to find the best teaching technique for an individual. Some students learn from activity-based instruct ... read more

I believe any student is capable of learning any subject when they are taught in a gentle and patient manner. It is important to help the student gain confidence with the subject and to build his self-esteem. As the student increases his knowledge and problem-solving abilities his confidence and curiosity will also increase. Learning will become a lifetime pursuit.

I have found that the best way to teach math is through analogy and real world examples. I prefer to teach general as opposed to specific methods, as these are more widely applicable. However general methods appear to be best taught through specific examples and with a great deal of patience. I am also a great fan of student encouragement as nothing can be done by the student if hey lack the necessary confidence.
I have been tutoring physics, mathematics and chemistry at the college for Naugatuck Valley Community for the past six years. I have tutored all levels of math through real analysis ad differential equations ad all levels of undergraduate physics. I love what I do and have a great gift for explanation. Tutoring requires, beyond a thorough understanding of the subject matter, an ability to empathize with the student and take the fear out of something new and possibly ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a recent graduate from the University of New Haven with a double major in Forensic Science and Chemistry. My education at UNH has provided me with a solid background in math and science and has allowed me to develop strong writing skills. During the past year I was a Laboratory Assistant at UNH where I had the opportunity to teach the theory and experimental procedures to students in laboratory courses as well as assist them in data analysis and troubleshooting.
I enjoy teaching students of all ages, especially in math and science. I believe that anyone can become successful in any subject as long as they put in the time and effort. I help students learn by walking them through the problem solving process step by step so that they can come to the correct answer in their own mind. Once they do that, the knowledge is theirs forever.

From leadership roles in high school to corporate training, I have a talent for being able to boil subjects down to their basics and provide true understanding. As an Ivy League Physics-turned-Social Sciences major, I have mastered two distinct skill-sets: one mathematical and one analytical. My mathematical background includes single and multivariable calculus as well as differential equations. I have tutored mathematics and physics, both on my own and for Cornell's own students, for the last two years. Additionally, my more analytical social science background has given me strong skills in researching and writing long reports and papers. I have also tutored students in writing and grammar.
One constant holds between the middle-schoolers and Ivy League engineering students that I have tutored: simplicity works. My style is to eliminate any strange concepts or terminology and instead focus in on the basic principles underlying an idea. After the student understands the basic principle, he or she begins to apply it through examples, problem ... read more

I am patient and believe that every child has the ability to learn. Not all children have the same learning style and I can adjust to ensure the child is gaining an understanding of the material and concepts. I prefer to be a coach and allow the student to discover on their own. I will provide examples and guidance but want the student to learn he or she can figure things out for themselves.
For most of my life I have had a passion for education and learning. Education opens up a world of opportunities. While studying for my bachelor’s degree in Mathematics I developed a love for the subject because of its order, logic, and simplicity. I earned a masters degree in Computer Science which afforded me the opportunity to learned extensive grammatical skills while writing research papers. As a senior member of many computer systems development projects I have mentored several junio ... read more
