Chess is one of my top subjects!

I'm an experienced chess player that has been teaching children chess for about a year now. I work part time for Kid Chess, a company that provides chess lessons to Elementary Schools across Georgia. With them I have prepared many lessons for groups and have given individual instruction to children too. My experience with Kid Chess has taught me how to instruct children in the basics of the game, and my time there has shown me how to give lessons to more experienced students too. Although I mainly teach children, I am more than comfortable teaching adults and teenagers too. Anyone who whises to learn chess from zero, or any beginner who wants to improve is welcome.

My comments on tutoring Chess : I have been playing chess since my childhood and I am good at it. During my college, I was a finalist in a chess tournament that was conducted on Hogwarts day. I played on the quad with students as chess pieces dressed in corresponding ones. I won all the qualifying games and lost against my Mathematics professor in championship. In my college, it is a glory for my friends to win against me. I play random and strategic. My random play is such that the opponent cannot predict my moves. If the opponent is playing with strategy, I deploy my defense strategy as well as offense. My favorite piece in chess is knight.

I involve students a lot during the learning period. I consistently ask them questions about the topic and let them think for a while. I give them as much information as possible so that they do not miss any information while solving problems. I make students write. That is how they learn. I consistently give students concepts and them demonstrate with sample questions.
Holding a Bachelors of Science degree in Mathematics and Economics, I have knowledge of both Mathematics and its application to Economics as well as other real world situations. My comments on tutoring Chess : I was taught chess at age four and have been playing ever since. I played throughout school but I have never competed outside of a school setting.

I have just finished law school. I grew up in Brazil as well as the United States which allowed me to become fluent in Portuguese as well as English without any accent. I enjoy computers and have learned many programs inside and out throughout my lifetime. Through college I took every computer class I could and even learned how to create a webpage using HTML formatting. The method of teaching I prefer is maieutic, i.e., one which draws knowledge from the student, rather than attempts to place it in him/her from without. To me, the process of asking questions and allowing the student's curiosity and intelligence to reach conclusions is far more effective than one-sided lecturing. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in short-term goal attainment. I first assess what the student feels they know, then look at what needs to be learned and from that I build a goal-oriented task set that should result in a learned skill set. I am also very good at thinking outside the box in order to get the skill set learned and to effect "true learning" as opposed to parroted learning.
