Since middle school, I've been tutoring younger students afterschool as a service to my community. With about 12 years of experience tutoring, I have found various ways to make learning easy and fun. My education background includes graduating with honors from highschool, a Chemical Engineering degree from Purdue University, and a teaching certification in the State of Hawaii. I have tutored students of all ages, from about 8 years old to the college level, and have managed to successfully educate them in math and science. Graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Mechanical Engineering. With that degree I have taken gain extensive knowledge in math and science subjects. With this knowledge I have tutored many high school students. I would say total tutor experience would be at least a year. My style of teaching is clear pictorial style. I try to teach concept through a visual way, using shapes, graphs, drawings,etc. I try to teach by example as well. I will try to give examples of how a problem is solve if a person needs it.

When I meet with a new client I create a plan by finding out where they are having trouble with starting with the basics. I make sure each client is prepared with all the basic tools to succeed before moving on to a new section. It is important to have to basics mastered to avoid having problems in the future. I like to teach by example. I do this by creating a problem, showing the steps, and then changing the numbers or variables. This way the the student can remember the process rather than just the answer. I always give positive reinforcement for their hard work. I believe creating challenges and praising clients for their accomplishments helps them retain the material. I have earned a B.S. in mathematics from a university with extensive coursework in the hard sciences and liberal arts which prepare a well rounded science teacher.
