As an engineering graduate from BYU, I have extensive training in physics and math, as well as a solid foundation in how to apply these studies to real life situations. Problem solving is a strong suit, and I feel the principles gained from engineering studies apply to a host of fields where the primary objective is solving problems. As a volunteer in Japan for 2 years and also as an engineer with Toyota, I have developed comfortable conversational Japanese in both personal and scientific settings. I provide a "gaijin" perspective on how the language is structured and how best to approach learning it.
As a parent of 4 children, I have a love for teaching in a variety of settings. I gain a sense of the students' interests and tie every subject back to something they are interested in. They need to "see" what difference their studies make. Learning needs to be a love, and I l ... read more

I find myself a very visually inclined learner and utilize that to help others learn, such as drawing or watching videos. I have found that audio learners do well when given analogies and kinesthetic learners do well with drills or acting out what they have learned all to mimic what their learning so that it might sink in better much like how when we learned to say our first words.
My college experience was unique to the learning community. Instead of theorizing and contemplating what lives the subjects we studied were living, we lived amongst those most only read about. In additi ... read more

More About This Tutor...

During my Master's program at UCLA, I was exposed to different ways of teaching and believe that students learn in a variety of ways. I am open to trying different approaches and methods with students in order to utilize the most effective means of ensuring that students are learning and retaining new information. I prefer to establish a positive rapport with my students and to create an environment in which they are comfortable and willing to take risks and make mistakes during the learning process. I have always felt that a good teacher can be crucial to students' success both inside the classroom and in the outside community as well.
I recently graduated with my Master's degree in Social Welfare from the University of California at Berkeley, and earned my first graduate degree in 1997 at the University of California at Los Angeles in Education. I taught 2nd grade in a biling ... read more
