I've taught creative writing to Japanese university students in English only (songs, stories and poetry) for two years, and ESL to all ages in Japanese society for 22 years. In America, I taught freshman public speaking, composition, and literature at the university level. My students have gone on to top-level universities, and placed first in prefectural level speech competitions. I teach how to learn, and encourage a love of learning, as well as teaching the subject. At this moment, I am a volunteer English/English as a Second Language Tutor at our community library. I tutor two elementary students in Reading and Writing two times a week. The younger student has a hard time focusing. I tried variety of things to help her. When we meet, I ask her first how was her day so I would know if she is tired or how long her attention span would be. After I try to ask her to read a small book that she picks.
