I have worked with many children and adolescents, for the past 8 years, mentoring and tutoring. I enjoy working with our youth and feel that education is very important, especially in today's society. As a teacher of three years, math is my life. I enjoy teaching math and have completed a math degree at Georgia College and State University. I am almost finished with my Masters in Secondary Mathematics. I am familiar with all levels of Mathematics from Algebra to the higher level math courses.
I have learned that all students learn differently. I am patient and like to determine how the student learns first so I can better assist them. It is hard to make math fun but I try to show students the real world applications of math and do hands on activities. I liken tutoring sessions to the repair of a crumbling pyramid. I believe that every student is capable of learning and understanding the material that is presented to them in class, but that due to some reason, he or she does not understand some of the basic concepts that later material adds onto. Hence, the base of their pyramid is unstable. Usually in the first tutoring session, I try to gauge where the student is supposed to be in the material while at the same time trying to figure out where the missing foundation stones are. Once key concepts are explained, I then give students some examples to bolster their confidence and to be sure that they have learned the material.
