My comments on tutoring Genetics : Genetics was one of my favorite classes as an undergraduate biochemistry major and is an area I am considering attending graduate school to study.

I spent the last year teaching English in China. I have experience teaching ESOL, and am experienced dealing learners of English of a second language. I studied Chinese during my stint there and am willing and able to tutor beginning students of the Chinese language who want to develop functional skills in Mandarin for career or personal development. I try to use as many resources as are available. What I mean is, in the Anatomy and Physiology labs there were models available to look at. I’ve used molecular models in Organic Chemistry for chemical structure. Sometimes asking a question can start the process of learning. A lot of it depends on the subject matter and the student involved. I try to remain open in my efforts to help others.
While enrolled in Anatomy and Physiology, my professor asked if I would be interested in becoming a tutor in the class. At that moment, I felt both a strong desire to help others and the fear of letting others down. I accepted the tutoring position because my passion for learning and helping others won out. I have had several opportunities over the last few years to help my co-workers with their adult education and not only am I able to help, they always return to me when they need more help.
