As a Summa Cum Laude graduate, I have always valued academics and education. I began to share my drive for excellence through tutoring in high school. I tutored elementary school students in all subjects and college students in Statistics. During college, I tutored in Spanish, as my area of expertise. My teaching style involves fun and an active student. Self-discovery is the best way to learn and retain knowledge. I see myself as the facilitator; I give my students the tools, so they can figure out problems on their own and become more self-reliant. I want learning to be fun, involving games, healthy competition and active learning, so students become life long learners. I started tutoring classmates in seventh grade and tutored friends in college in Trigonometry. I have earned two BS degrees in Landscape Architecture and Computer Science with a minor in Math. this diverse education allows me to tutor in Math and Science as well as design and art. I have tutored part-time since 2004, mostly in high school Math, but have also assisted in Chemistry, CBEST, SAT, and GRE prep. I have also developed coursework and taught at UCSC in the classroom setting, and trained employees.
My first visit is just an assessment of where the student began to get lost regardless of the age or level. More often that not, they have to memorize their fractions to decimal to percentage conversion from 1/2 to 1/12. Given this underlying knowledge allows me to focus on the subject at hand.
