Guitar playing is fun. I have enjoyed many years with the guitar. At age 12 I rescued my first guitar from a garbage can on my way home from school. I was enthralled. A few strategically placed screws and a bottle of Elmer’s glue to reattach the neck, and I was playing the baseline of “Wipe-Out” to the amazement of my friends. It doesn’t get any better than that. I’m now known as Grampy. My friendship with the six string has survived these many years. I have been fortunate to introduce people of all ages to this popular instrument. I have enjoyed the opportunity to play in some nice restaurants and several weddings. In my younger years I studied music at Cerritos College in California. I am a recent graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno. I earned my BS in Finance through the College of Business Administration which enabled me to gain experience in different subjects such as math, economics, accounting, information systems, and marketing. I also used to tutor other, younger students when I was in high school. I am a very understanding and considerate person and my teaching style reflects that. I have been counseling a week-long church camp in southern California for the past 5 years now and I absolutely love doing it. The ages are 9-12 and I look forward to it every year. I have also worked with older children when I worked at the Boy's and Girl's Club. I definitely believe a successful tutor can really change the life of a young adult by stressing the importance of education. A strength on which I have always prided myself is my ability to relate complex concepts with useful analogies and from different angles. I never underestimate a child's ability to learn something, so long as it's in a way in which they understand it. Curriculum development is also important. By that, I mean the creation of illustrations, tables, lists, acronyms, heuristics, and flash cards to aid a student in their thirst to learn. I am patient and fun, and working with children is something that has always animated and invigorated me. By getting a child to enjoy what he or she is learning, a tutor can open the floodgates to his or her potential and happiness. My experience in tutoring computers for the last 6 years and facilitating study sessions in college for the last 4 years has refined my skills in directing absorption of knowledge in a direction that is organized and on-task.

I have been playing guitar for about five years now. I've taught many of my friends to play as well. I have a lot of patients and really enjoy what I do. I can play anything from soft acoustic type style to metal. Scales, chords, style and theory. I can teach you everything you will need to take you and your playing to the next level. I like to take my time and make sure that the things I've shown are mentally retained. Everybody has a unique style of learning suited to them and you need somebody that can recognize those styles and adapt in the way they learn best. One of my favorite things is seeing a persons face (old,young or anywhere in between) light up after they play a riff or song after really working at it and wanting it so bad.

In addition to playing the guitar, I have been a certified lifeguard for 17 years. I was certified lifeguard instructor for 7 years of these years; teaching CPR, First Aid, Basic Lifeguarding and Waterfront Rescue Training. The majority of my students were High School Students. I really enjoyed waterfront instruction because it requires the students to become familiar with rescue techniques, rescue boards and equipment related to wave action, moving water, sun position and weather conditions. I am easy going and patientand positive. I kept learning fun, but also keeping safety of the student first. I enjoyed giving them the tools to perform physically to the best of their abilities.
