Experience Summary
Guitar playing is fun. I have enjoyed many years with the guitar. At age 12 I rescued my first guitar from a garbage can on my way home from school. I was enthralled. A few strategically placed screws and a bottle of Elmer’s glue to reattach the neck, and I was playing the baseline of “Wipe-Out” to the amazement of my friends. It doesn’t get any better than that.
I’m now known as Grampy. My friendship with the six string has survived these many years. I have been fortunate to introduce people of all ages to this popular instrument. I have enjoyed the opportunity to play in some nice restaurants and several weddings. In my younger years I studied music at Cerritos College in California. There I tutored Basic Musicianship, Music Theory, and Counterpoint.
I am offering guitar instruction to interested people of all ages. Most people who take lessons are beginners, and as a beginner you have come to the right place. I’ve tutored kids as young as 7. I play primarily finger style acoustic guitar and like to start the younger kids out studying classical guitar. They are not afraid of the little black dots and lines. The older “kids” might have years of picking under their fingers but sometimes will benefit from revisiting the basics of musicianship and technique. Older beginners can enjoy the sense of accomplishment and self expression that guitar music brings. There’s nothing like playing the music of your youth.
Whatever your interest in the guitar, give me a call and lets talk about it. I have worked through books of many styles over the years. Regardless of style, basic musicianship and notation skills are incorporated into all lessons. I maintain a private studio at the Positive Energy studio in Carson City.
Hope to hear from you soon,
