My training in rhetoric, speech, and debate has taught me the importance of speaking clearly and articulately. This means that I pay close attention to language and I try to bring out that quality in my students. Other methods that I use come from my time as a foreign language teacher. Here, repetition and practice of introduced concepts are key. It's not enough to simply pass on ideas and words, the student must engage with the material for it to become real. A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of Sociology I have gained a lot of knowledge about how society functions. I was interested in this area of study to understand peoples because I have always had compassion for others. I have participated in a 4 unit class where i taught Spanish to 8-11 year old children and it consisted of developing a plan that included songs and dancing to learn Spanish in a fun and animated way. I have done research on homelessness, and had an internship with a non profit that provides social services for those in need. Working closely with this organization has helped me assess peoples needs and use problem solving skills to help individuals in a variety of situations.

I love helping children learn in a way that's fun and supportive. I strongly engage my students in the process by asking questions and balancing the different learning styles (auditory, written, verbal, physical). I can bring structure and focus to students' learning path in a compassionate and safe environment, and help them gain confidence and be successful.
I have always enjoyed helping people learn, from dancing and sailing in my youth, to English and French more recently. For two years I was a tutor at a resource center at a city college, where I helped students on a one on one basis with reading and writing skills. I have tutored privately a number of clients in French, and I currently teach a French class at an after care program.
