I have been an educator for almost 20 years. I began my teaching career as a substitute teacher and immediately fell in love with teaching children with special needs. Desiring to continue to teach, I finished a Master's degree which gave me the endorsements to teach K-12 children with special needs. Since then, I have taught reading and mathematics to both children with special needs and regular education children at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. As I gained a greater thirst to do more to help children, outside of teaching in the public school setting, I bagan tutoring. There are so many wonderful resources available online as well as videos and dvds that can support the materials my students are using in their classrooms. I enjoy using them all and endeavor to encourage students to tap into their own learning styles, while I facilitate their achieving their goals. I have over 20 years of experience working with American Sign Language and the deaf community. I have a proven success rate in assisting my students in excelling on standardized tests. In the 2007-2008 school year my students achieved double digit gains on the MSAs (Middle School Assessments). Also during my experience I have moved basic and proficient students to advanced levels on the standardized tests and helped the students that I have tutored in the past and currently tutor advance in the subjects of Math (Algebra, Geometry and Basic Mathematics) Science, Social Studies and English from failing to grades that show proficiency. Teaching is something that is not meant for everyone. I am fortunate to say that my academic success is due to my ability to break down any material to a basic ideal and teach the materials in mutiple ways. The most important thing I do is make the material appeal to any individuals. Once these things are established, I believe student can effectivly learn and grow. I am Paine College graduate. I earned a BS in Mathematics and Computer Science in 2006. While at Paine College I took variety of science classes including organic chemistry, atmospheric science, and cell biology. Since graduating, I have spent two years as a high school math teacher. I have also tooken graduate work in mathematic and math education. For the past eight years I have also work or volunteered as a personal math tutor.
