A Little Bit About Me...

This is my 5th year teaching high school Chemistry and Introduction to Physics to grades 9th-12th. Most of the students I teach are in the 9th grade. I have been at the same school for my entire small teaching career. I absolutely love educating and get the most satisfaction when I see students light bulbs come on!
I beleive students learn the best by having their ending in mind first. I like for my students to understand the purposefulness of work and how it will help them reach their goal. First I would like to get to know the student and parents, focusing mainly on the student's interests and goals as well as how they feel about the particular subject they will be tutored in. After that I would have the student show me where they currently are in class and what they need help with. Then, depending on the particular circumstances, I would create a plan to get the student caught up and self-sufficient as quickly as possible. Even though fast results are what I hope for, the student would set the pace of the sessions. I find that the best way to tutor my students is to find out what they are struggling with the most in a subject and then helping them with the basics in that subject. I work with the student on the basics and then build up to more difficult material. I am patient with students of all ages. I believe that knowing the basics of a subject is always important. In college, I always had to know the basics to build on that knowledge. It can take some time to start at the bottom, but it's worth having the permanent knowledge over learning it short term just to pass the test.
