I have a diverse field of experience. I received a dual B.A. in Linguistics and Anthropology in 2006. This allows me to understand language tutoring at a deeper level than most tutors. This foundation has been augmented by 5 years of teaching experience in ESOL, History, Academic Writing, and Professional interview training which I have conducted all over the world. In 2009, I received my MA in applied linguistics. This degree worked as a capstone to perfect my teaching style in regards to ESL.
I try to foster independent learners. If the pupil is perpetually dependent on the teacher, then nothing is gained- money and efforts are wasted. As a high school teacher for 13 years, I have had a profound impact on the academic and personal success of a great majority of my students. I have won many "inspirational teacher awards" and have been identified by many of my students as the teacher most responsible for their success. They have said that I have made learning interesting, fun, and rewarding for them because I have a unique way of helping students make meaningful connections between academics and their lives. My doctoral dissertation examined college-level remedial reading and writing students in an effort to determine if adding online instruction to traditional instruction would improve student performance. My dissertation explored five hypotheses, and I found statistical significance in all five; thereby supporting the notion that adding online instruction to traditional instruction can improve student learning. While I was a doctoral student, I was also a Merit Scholar. In addition to my teaching, I have also tutored elementary, high school, and college students in reading, writing, and the understanding of Literature. I have also worked a great deal with ESL students.
