I've been an avid, life-long reader and writer. I never intended to become a teacher until I began to work with children who have autism. My passion to work with kids, and teach, started in those first few moments that I saw my clients make progress. Due to my background, I have a strong grasp of the conventions of writing and an inherent ability to assist others in learning how to comprehend texts. I have been selected as a peer tutor through Carlow University for Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. I prefer to begin by having the student describe the current subject matter to the best of his/her abilities to determine a starting point. I have found that having the student talk through the subject matter can be useful in determining his/her strengths and level of understanding. I like to have the student work through some problems they have not been assigned from their book/notes so that they are able to practice and work through some other problems before attempting any assignments. I have also found that it is useful to go over any previous quizzes or tests related to the current subject matter as difficulties are sometimes related to previous work because with these subjects the work tends to build upon itself.

As a graduate of a sound Liberal Arts College, I've learned that the greatest asset I took away with me was the art of communication. I have earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with a focus in Creative Writing and Spanish. I have written essays upon essays, from creative short-stories to my fifty-page senior thesis, and would love to continue working in a position which allows me to use my hard-earned tools.
