Since childhood, I have worked to help students improve their skills at reading, writing, public speaking or any other subject I could offer help with. In May, 2009, I received my BA in English, which allows me to assist with all English subjects, including writing, grammar, public speaking, and literature. I am also comfortable tutoring in Music Theory, Vocal Performance, and Basic Piano and am able to work with beginning French learners on grammar, vocabulary, and reading skills. I have an adaptable teaching style. Teaching is most effective on the individual level. On the rare occasions I have been able to work one-on-one with a student, I am able to approach the material in various ways to best fit that student's needs. Most students in today's society are visual learners. Visual aides usually work the best with these students. When these students don't grasp material, usually it is because they are not able to conceptualize it. However, if you can assist by showing, the student gets a jump-start into comprehension. When i teach material, I do not simply teach What the students need to know to solve a problem. While planning for a career in medicine, I obtained a BS in biology with a minor in Chemistry. During the application and acceptance process I was an adjunct faculty member at a local technical college. My courses taught were remedial Algebra, biology, and anatomy and physiology. During the hours between classes I was a paid Tutor in the college's learning assistance center. I wouldn't have a "professional" description for teaching style as my education was solidly based in the sciences. I do enjoy helping students with their problems. I have a technique of visualization. for example, which is the first example I use. I tell the student to think of a tree. in the seconds you think of a tree, you don't think of just the tree. you think of the roots, the trunk, the limbs, the branches, the leaves. then you think of whats going on in the tree, right down to the point of the tree taking in carbon dioxide and giving off oxygen and water. Why is the tree giving off water. most people do not know that the tree is making water because it is attaching hydrogen to the oxygen to get rid of the hydrogen, acid.
