I am a firm believer that the science subjects are not as difficult as many students are afraid they are. In my past tutoring experiences I like to allow the student to explain to me in their terms their understanding of the subject. I then fill in the gaps or revise their understanding. As a college graduate, I have been educated on a wide variety of topics which I achieved high academic excellence. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in communication disorders and psychology. These subjects have allowed me to gain knowledge about the basic maths and sciences as well as about people. Moreover, through my college experience, I have extremely sufficient grammatical skills due to the numerous research papers I have written. I do not like to teach out of textbooks. I use them primarily as resources. I prefer to create a lesson or activity that plays to the strengths of the individual child/student and challenges them on their particular level. I have found interactive lessons are very effective for all age ranges.
I spent 2 years tutoring Math for the students in my Mothers classroom afterschool (4th grade). I spent one year in college working with special needs students from the local elementary school, which included writing lesson plans and executing activities in group form. I taught one year of 7th grade Health and Physical Education. I tutored all the students at the end of the year to help them achieve passing scores on End Of Grade testing.
