Experienced, unconventional Latin and English teacher

Personal, humorous, and energetic. I tailor games and activities to each class and do not think teaching directly from a text inspires many to learn. Typical key elements of my courses include flexible lesson planning, personalized tests/quizzes, adding cultural content, and incorporating student ideas as much as possible.
I have over 20 years of experience working as a university instructor and private teacher for students ages 11-50. Most of my experience has been in English as a Second Language programs for community colleges and research universities, including M.I.T. and Tufts University. As tutors we must recognize their individual learning styles along with their strengths and weaknesses to help them succeed. Most children seem to learn best visually and kinesthetically. Through pre-testing, we can learn where the child needs to start instruction and to look for gaps in learning that often cause confusion interfering with their ability to learn a particular concept.
