As a tutor, I try to identify the learning strategies of my students and then build off of those. For example, if I notice that a student is a visual learner, then I will try to incorporate diagrams, models, and schematics that can assist the student in understanding the subject matter or solving the problem. If, on the other hand, a student learns best by reading, then I will provide step by step instructions of how to find answers to various problems, or provide guidance as to how to identify important elements from a text. In any event, I try to show students several different strategies for learning or for approaching a given problem and let them determine which one makes the best sense to them.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always known that I enjoy teaching others. In fact, I started teaching others almost as soon as I finished myself. While my degree is in Environmental Science, I have extensive background in both biology and chemistry. I was a peer leader and tutor for organic chemistry. Furthermore, I currently work for Duke University as a laboratory manager. One of my key responsibility is teaching undergraduate students various techniques in micro-biology and biochemistry.
