I have a laid back teaching style, within the next year I plan to get my MAT so I can teach in NC. I believe that this will help me reinforce some of my teaching skills that I will use from everyday basis. As a history major at Western I had to read many books and an accelerated rate. Also being an English minor I gained analytical and grammatical skills to help better understand pieces of literature I had to read and I can pass those skills to other students.

Since I earned my K-6 teaching license, I have worked with children in several different instructional/mentor/tutoring positions. I worked as a teaching assistant in Fifth Grade and First Grade. I have worked primarily in the utility industry, with short periods of employment in the aluminum industry and semiconductor industry. My teaching style is informal and friendly. I have numerous years as an AWANA teacher of children at church in addition to one year experience as a professional chemistry teacher. I have a passion for math and love to make the subject come alive for children and adults alike. I am quite patient and sensitive to diverse educational and family backgrounds, so I often try to relate concepts to the student's own life and activities. I'm a visual and object-oriented learner, and I tend to illustrate concepts through drawing, using props, as well as using rhythm, rhyme and personification.
