Experience Summary
Since I earned my K-6 teaching license, I have worked with children in several different instructional/mentor/tutoring positions. I worked as a teaching assistant in Fifth Grade and First Grade. At the same time, I was also the Education Director for the local Boys and Girls Club. I have also subbed and worked as a tutor since March of 2009.
Teaching Style
I enjoy teaching and working with elementary aged children. I love those moments when, after much effort, the light of understanding dawns in a student's eyes. When it comes to how children acquire knowledge, I believe it is very important to help them build new knowledge based upon their prior knowledge and experiences. I am aware of the different ways that children learn and attempt to structure my approach in tutoring to match those learning style differences. Finally, I believe that building a positive relationship with both the pupil and his/her parents is crucial in fostering academic progress.
