Experience Summary
Starting in high school, I began to tutor grade school and middle school students through an after-school honors program. I have worked with (primarily middle school) students in several volunteer programs through church youth ministries. I had recently held a position as Music Director for Middle School Ministry at Willow Creek Community Church in Dupage, IL for 13 months. While earning my BAS in the Chicago area, I tutored college students in several subjects, mostly Math and Computer Skills for the entirety of the Bachelors program, 26 months. In both high school and college, the majority of students I tutored were at-risk/probational students.
Teaching Style
I have a passion for math and love to make the subject come alive for children and adults alike. I am quite patient and sensitive to diverse educational and family backgrounds, so I often try to relate concepts to the student's own life and activities. I'm a visual and object-oriented learner, and I tend to illustrate concepts through drawing, using props, as well as using rhythm, rhyme and personification. I look at at-risk students as a happy challenge, to give them appreciation for and, yes, even love of their subject matter. I work with teachers and parents helping them to find unique and effective supplements to help their child succeed.
