I have been tutoring all subjects K-8 for over 15 years. I am a certified teacher and currently teach 6th grade. I worked at Sylvan Learning Center for over a year before becoming a private tutor. I have been very pleased with the results I have seen with private tutoring. References are available on request. I think lots of modeling and review of the concepts being taught is essential. I want the student to observe the modeling and then for me to guide them through the learning of the concepts. Students should be fully engaged in order to gain a full understanding.

I have never had formal experience tutoring. However Throughout my years of schooling I would participate in study groups which I see as everyone tutoring eachother. I also have two siblings, one very close in age and the other is approximately four years younger. Needless to say, I frequently helped my younger sister with her homework. I like starting with the given information and stepping through the processes to solve a problem. Reminding them of, or even showing them, the rules, properties, and examples in the book. I normally try to find the method that best works with each pupil, then highlight on that. I also make sure not to do the work for the student. I will sometimes come up with a similar problem to work through so they can see what's really going on within the problem. I have tutored Algebra through Calculus I and Elementary Statistics for the last three years. 1.5 years at both Wichita State University and Washburn University.
