Experience Summary
I believe that all teachers should be life-long learners. All teachers should be informed on new best practices and be knowledgeable of current educational policies. These are the reasons that I belong to TESOL and the International Reading Association. In addition to belonging to these organizations, I have continued to pursue new knowledge by attending graduate classes at the University of Kansas. After I received my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 1994, I continued my studies and received both my reading specialist and ESL endorsements. Currently, I teach reading to struggling readers as well as to students who are learning English as a second language. In addition, I tutor Native American students through the NASS program.
I find these experiences very rewarding.
Teaching Style
I enjoy working with all children. During the past twenty years, I had the opportunity to work with very diverse students from kindergarten to 6th grade. Given the right instruction, I believe that all students can learn. As a reading specialist, I have seen students go from struggling readers to confident readers. By working with these students and seeing their lives change; I know I make a difference.
