Optimistic communicator sharing a love of reading & writing

I worked as a tutor while doing respite work for United Cerebral Palsy of Orange County in California. I am proud to say that the young man I worked with the longest is now finishing his BA in justice studies at Cal State Dominguez Hills. I also tutored as a substitute aid for the Ocean View School District in Orange County, California. After earning my BA in journalism from CSUF I have published in a number of print and online media outlets, and I am currently pursuing an MFA in creative writing.
Communication is key, so I will look for the specific interests that a particular student has and connect with where their strengths reside. From there we can build on these high points and draw them into other areas where their abilities need improvement.

It is NEVER too late to learn, nor right to learn only 1 way

I utilize kinesthetic learning and encourage parental involvement within the tutoring sessions.
I summarized my basic experience in the Policy Statement. To expand on that, I have over 20 apps on an android tablet that are for clients who need early intervention in the areas of educational subjects, speech/breathing techniques, social and emotional recognition and assistive communication. I have a child safety filter infiltrated into the device so that the clients receive only what is appropriate to their learning. They cannot access the settings on the device, nor the regular web. I honor parents' input on what they think is appropriate for their child.

My style does not vary greatly from one age level or ability level to another. The first priority is to find out what the student knows. Next I try to discover if there are any roadblocks preventing their success. For example, I once knew of a class who had missed an integral part of their math training the previous semester. Without this building block, they were unable to comprehend the new material. My goal is to start where the pupil is, wherever that may be, and build on their knowledge.
