My comments on tutoring Chess : I have been a chess player since age 7 - I am rated at 1850. I love to play and teach the game!

I have been teaching college (History, Philosophy, Ethics, writing, reading, social studies) since the early 1980's. I have taught in New York (LaGuardia Community College), Connectiuct (Three Rivers Community College), New Jersey (Mercer County Community College) and Pennsylvania (Bucks County and Montgomery County Community Colleges and ). I have also taught online (University of Phoenix, DeVry University and The Iowa Consortium of Community Colleges). A Little Bit About Me...

I have lived in South Jersey all of my life. I received my degree in Accounting from Stockton and have spent most of my career in finance working my way up to Controller for several businesses. When I was laid off, I had always wanted to try teaching and I loved it. I love working with kids (I also coach baseball and football), I really get a kick out of passing my knowledge onto them and seeing their face when it sinks in.
Math to me is like a puzzle... if you can imagine the pieces in your mind, fitting them together in practice is so much easier. I am extremely patient and easy going, even in coaching, most kids gravitated to me because I could speak to them on their level. You have to explain it in a way that kids can understand. Positive feedback is very critical to let them know they are going down the right path.
